About

SCOV Law (pronounced "scoff-law") is intended to be a virtual meeting place to discuss legal developments in Vermont, with a focus on the Supreme Court's jurisprudence. The people behind this blog are a group of young Vermont lawyers from all over the state. "SCOV" stands for Supreme Court of Vermont. The Court has never actually called itself that; we just thought it sounded catchy.

The bulk of our content is SCOV case summaries. We strive to make our SCOV case summaries entertaining and informative for lawyers and real people alike. At times we may seem irreverent. At times we are. The hope is that our tone will pique your interest in the actual cases, inspire discussion, and, in turn, improve the quality and education of the Vermont Bar. That's our story and we're stickin' to it.

From time to time, we will publish legal analysis and lifestyle posts. We do this to break things up and provide some variety. Do not be surprised to hear tales of overcoat selection, student-loan-debt anxiety, musical tastes, and other disjointed and miscellaneous subjects on occasion. Our regular columnists, like the Cultured Barrister and the Street Lawyer, will pontificate, ruminate, explicate, and disseminate on these pages mostly for your amusement.

We hope you enjoy your time here. If you have comments or questions, please post them. We want you to be part of the discussion.

Thanks for reading.
